Sutter Buttes
Considered by some to be the world's smallest mountain range, the Sutter Buttes are a small circular complex of eroded volcanic lava domes which rise as buttes above the flat plains of California's Sacramento Valley. These "Middle Mountains" figure prominently in the creation stories and other traditions of the indigenous people of California. The northern portion has been classified as California's newest state park, recognizing its significant natural, cultural, geologic, scenic, and recreational resource values.
